VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS ANNOUNCE PLANS FOR CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION ON FEBRUARY 8
Vegas Golden Knights President Kerry Bubolz announced today, January 31, that the team will host a Chinese New Year Celebration on Saturday, February 8 when the Golden Knights face the Carolina Hurricanes.
Chinese New Year is the longest and most important holiday in Chinese culture. It celebrates the beginning of the new year on the traditional Chinese lunar calendar. Each year is assigned one of 12 Chinese zodiac animals, 2020 being the Year of the Rat. This year, Chinese New Year takes place from January 25 to February 8.
“We take great pride in recognizing all of the customs and traditions celebrated by the diverse cultures that make up the Las Vegas community,” said Vegas Golden Knights PresidentKerry Bubolz. “We’re excited to ring in the Year of the Rat by incorporating traditional Chinese New Year elements into all aspects of our game on February 8.”
Leading up to the Chinese New Year Celebration, fans can stop by The Arsenal at City National Arena and The Armory at T-Mobile Arena to pick up exclusive VGK Chinese New Year themed gear. Items available include t-shirts, sweatshirts, pucks and hats.
VGK players will wear Chinese New Year themed jerseys during warm-ups that will feature their last names in Mandarin. The specialty warm-up jerseys, locker nameplates and warm-up pucks will be available for purchase on a first come, first serve basis at the VGK Authentics kiosk outside of sections 10/11. Fans will be able to purchase up to two specialty jerseys per person. Items will be available starting in the middle of the first period.
The team will have multiple activations inside T-Mobile Arena and on Toshiba Plaza to celebrate the day. Activations will include:
- A Wishing Wall where fans can write their wishes and resolutions for the new year
- Traditional Chinese New Year elements incorporated in the March to the Fortress and throughout the in-game entertainment experience
