Gerard Way To Speak During 'Unwound & Unplugged' Mental Health Benefit

My Chemical Romance may have had to put their reunion on hold, but Gerard Way's been keeping himself plenty busy during the past year. On Tuesday (February 23), Way announced he'll be speaking at Unwound & Unplugged — a virtual mental health benefit concert and panel — along with Julien Baker and DeathbyRomy.

"I'm excited to speak at #UnwoundAndUnplugged, presented by @soundmind_live and @nationaldayofunplugging, coming up on March 2nd!" he wrote on Instagram. "This virtual mental health concert and panel brings together myself, @julienrbaker and @deathbyromy to promote a community of support around experiences related to mental health, isolation and the healing power of creativity and connection. I know that it's a really tough time for everyone right now. Coming together as a community and speaking openly about mental health is more relevant than ever."

MCR rescheduled their North American tour for next summer with hopes live music will be able to return by then. Guitarist Frank Iero recently reflected on the delay, admitting it's been "a weird experience."

“I can’t wait, man. I really can’t," he said about the band's eventual return. "It’s such a weird experience to be like, ​‘Hey, alright, all of this stuff that we’ve been working towards and these well-made plans,’ and all of a sudden it’s like, ​‘Ah, hurry up and wait.’ But it happens…"
